Aviva Protection Benefits: 5 Free Aviva Care Benefits You May Not Know About
When comparing life insurance, mortgage protection, income protection or specified illness cover in Ireland, price is obviously important.
But price isn’t the only thing worth comparing.
An Aviva protection policy can give you access to Aviva Care, a package of health and wellbeing services available at no extra cost with eligible Aviva protection policies.
And these aren’t benefits that only become useful if you make a life insurance claim.
They include services you and, depending on the service, members of your family may be able to use while you’re healthy and getting on with everyday life.
🛡️ What Is Aviva Care?
Aviva Care is Aviva’s health and wellbeing service, provided in partnership with Teladoc Health.
There are currently five key services:
🩺 Digital GP
🌍 Best Doctors Second Medical Opinion
🧠 Family Care Mental Health Support
❤️ Bereavement Support
🏃 Get Fit Programme
They’re provided at no extra cost with Aviva protection.
Let’s look at exactly what you get.
🩺 1. Aviva Digital GP
Getting a doctor’s appointment isn’t always convenient – particularly if you’re working, looking after children or away from home.
Aviva Digital GP gives eligible customers and their immediate family access to a private GP service online.
You can speak to an experienced doctor about non-emergency health concerns without needing to visit a GP surgery.
What can Aviva Digital GP provide?
✅ Online GP appointments
✅ Clinical advice and guidance
✅ Access from home
✅ Access while you’re on holiday
✅ Prescriptions that can be sent to your local pharmacy
Aviva currently states that its Digital GP doctors are available:
Monday–Friday: 8am–8pm
Weekends: 9am–12 noon.
💡 Why we think this is a particularly valuable benefit
A protection policy is primarily there to provide financial protection.
But Digital GP is different because it’s a benefit you could potentially use in everyday life.
If you already have life or mortgage protection, it’s worth checking whether your current provider gives you anything similar.
🌍 2. Best Doctors Second Medical Opinion
Imagine you or somebody close to you receives an important medical diagnosis.
One of the first questions you might ask is:
“Are we sure this is the correct diagnosis and the right treatment?”
Aviva’s Best Doctors Second Medical Opinion service gives eligible customers access to a network of 50,000 medical specialists across 450 specialties and subspecialties worldwide.
The service can help you:
✅ Double-check a diagnosis
✅ Review a proposed treatment
✅ Investigate alternative treatment options
✅ Review your options if your symptoms aren’t improving
✅ Obtain an expert medical opinion without having to leave home
Importantly, Aviva says the service can also be used for conditions diagnosed before you took out your Aviva cover.
👨👩👧👦 It’s not necessarily just for you
This is one of the features we particularly like about the benefit.
Aviva states that Best Doctors can also be available to family members, including a spouse or partner, eligible children and even parents and a spouse/partner’s parents.
So you’re potentially getting access to a worldwide medical second-opinion service for a much wider family group – without paying an additional premium specifically for that service.
🧠 3. Aviva Family Care – Mental Health Support
Protection isn’t only about physical health.
Aviva Family Care provides access to professional psychological support when you or eligible family members are experiencing difficult periods.
The service includes specialised therapies such as:
✅ Counselling
✅ Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
✅ Support with anxiety and stress
✅ Support when feeling low or lonely
✅ Help dealing with difficult life events
✅ Help developing coping and behavioural skills
The service is confidential and Aviva states that the psychologists are registered with the Psychological Society of Ireland.
Who can use Aviva Family Care?
Aviva says the service can be accessed by:
👤 You
❤️ Your spouse or partner
👨👩👧 Your children up to age 18
🎓 Children up to age 23 if they’re in full-time education
That can make the benefit particularly valuable for families.
❤️ 4. Bereavement Support
Losing somebody close to you can be incredibly difficult.
Aviva Care includes access to bereavement counselling, providing professional support at a time when you or your spouse/partner may need someone to talk to.
Benefits include:
✅ Confidential support
✅ Easy access to professional help
✅ Help developing ways to cope
✅ Support from qualified psychologists and counsellors
It’s another example of protection providing more than simply a financial payment.
🏃 5. Aviva Get Fit Programme
This is one of the newer additions to Aviva Care and makes the package even more interesting.
The Get Fit Programme is an online four-to-eight-week fitness and nutrition programme designed to help customers develop healthier habits.
The programme has been developed by nutrition and fitness experts and includes:
🥗 Calorie-controlled meal plans
🍽️ Weekly lunch and dinner ideas
🏋️ Guided exercise videos
🥦 Healthy recipes
🌱 Omnivore, vegetarian and vegan meal options
The objective is to help users improve their nutrition, exercise and overall wellbeing in a structured and sustainable way.
⭐ So What Do You Actually Get With Aviva Care?
| Aviva Care Benefit | What It Provides |
|---|---|
| 🩺 Digital GP | Online access to an experienced GP |
| 🌍 Best Doctors | Second medical opinion from a global expert network |
| 🧠 Family Care | Mental health and psychological support |
| ❤️ Bereavement Support | Professional counselling following bereavement |
| 🏃 Get Fit Programme | Personalised fitness and nutrition support |
And crucially:
These Aviva Care services come at no extra cost with Aviva protection.
That means you aren’t paying a separate Aviva Care premium on top of your protection premium.
🏠 Does Aviva Care Come With Mortgage Protection?
Aviva lists Aviva Care as an additional benefit with its protection products, including mortgage protection.
That means when you’re comparing mortgage protection quotations, don’t necessarily look at price alone.
For example, two insurers could quote similar monthly premiums, but the additional benefits attached to the policies could be different.
That’s why at Low Cost Life Cover we believe it’s important to compare both price AND policy benefits.
❤️ Does Aviva Care Come With Life Insurance?
Yes. Aviva currently promotes Aviva Care as a benefit of its life insurance protection.
Aviva’s life insurance also includes other policy features that may apply depending on the policy terms, including terminal illness benefit, children’s life cover and free accidental death cover while an application is being considered.
These aren’t part of the five Aviva Care services themselves, so it’s important to distinguish between Aviva Care benefits and the additional features of an Aviva protection policy.
💰 Are Aviva Care Benefits Really Free?
A better description is “at no extra cost.”
You still pay the premium for your underlying Aviva protection policy, but Aviva does not currently charge an additional premium for access to Aviva Care.
That’s an important distinction.
Aviva also states that it does not guarantee the ongoing availability of all Aviva Care services and may withdraw access by providing policyholders with notice.
📱 How Do I Access Aviva Care?
Once your Aviva protection policy becomes active, Aviva says you can register for Aviva Care the following day.
You can:
-
Download the Aviva Care app.
-
Register using your email address.
-
Enter your Aviva policy number or applicable access code.
-
Set up your account.
-
Access the services available to you.
The service can be accessed through the app or online.
⚖️ Should You Choose Aviva Just for the Free Benefits?
The additional benefits are certainly worth considering, but they shouldn’t be the only factor when choosing protection.
We recommend comparing:
💰 Price
📋 Policy benefits
🏥 Additional health services
📈 Level and type of cover
⏳ Length of cover
🔄 Conversion and other policy options
👨👩👧👦 Your family’s individual requirements
The cheapest policy isn’t automatically the best policy – and the policy with the most additional benefits isn’t automatically the right one either.
The objective should be to find good-value protection that properly meets your needs.
💙 Compare Aviva With Ireland’s Other Leading Insurers
This is where using an independent Financial Broker can make a big difference.
Low Cost Life Cover isn’t tied to Aviva or to one bank.
We can compare protection options from leading Irish insurers to help you find a competitive combination of price, cover and benefits.
So rather than automatically accepting the protection offered by your bank, compare the market first.
🔎 Already have protection?
It’s still worth comparing.
You may be able to reduce your monthly premium or find a policy offering additional benefits that better suit your needs.
Never cancel an existing protection policy until replacement cover has been accepted, started and you have confirmed it is appropriate to replace the existing policy.
